Darfur, Sudan Radio Drama

To create and develop a weekly radio drama in the local dialects which speaks to Darfur’s diverse communities about themes that matter to them and the UN peacekeeping mission, such as peacebuilding, reconciliation, the role of youth, and the role of women, health, and community security.

Albany identified and trained local scriptwriters and voice actors, and then developed coordination mechanisms with UNAMID to select and research subjects which the script writers could then dramatise to create the understanding among the listenership.

To date, Albany has produced a total of 192 episodes of 30-minute drama, broadcast across Sudan weekly since 2013. We have also created a gender-balanced stable of three scriptwriters and 15 voice actors, all of whom are now experienced and adept at employing creativity to build peace in Darfur.
